    GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

    This is an entry-level position that provides assistance and support for the Systems Engineering Team, and as an extension, the Regional Sales Team. The Systems Engineer I provides engineering design and technical support on the commercial and municipal wastewater collection and/or treatment system projects. The Systems Engineer I will regularly interact with internal Orenco staff, and at times with contractors/installers, designers/engineers, developers, our business partners (a.k.a. distributors, dealers, and suppliers), service providers/operators, and Regulators regarding these projects. The Systems Engineer I will prepare a wide range of projects specific documentation including but not limited to, proposals, design review letters, and quotes. The Systems Engineer I will research, review, and process project specific orders for Orenco Systems products and services, develop custom commercial O&M (Operation and Maintenance) manuals, and will provide superior customer service in all internal and external interactions.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA (Key Result Areas):

    > Selling

    • Increases sales and improves the overall customer experience by providing value add product recommendations.
    • Educates external stakeholders.
    • Learns and demonstrates effective use of Integrity Selling.
    • Grows our contact database of key external stakeholders to ensure they are receiving regular communication from Orenco.
    • Coordinates with other company staff to accomplish the work required to close sales.

    > Leading

    • Demonstrates leadership within the sales department and within the organization daily.
    • Participates in all meetings and contributes ideas and opinions.
    • Improves methods for internal and customer-facing processes.
    • Volunteers and participates in team, department, and organizational initiatives.
    • Coordinates with various departments within Orenco regarding team initiatives and objectives.
    • Sets and strives to complete annual personal development goals.

    > Planning

    • Participates in the development and completion of the quarterly and annual territory plans aligned with territory, regional, and/or company plans.

    > Systems Engineering Support

    • Supports the systems engineering team, and as an extension the regional sales team. Assists with the project management of commercial and municipal collection and/or treatment opportunities.
    • Provides a variety of design support services for commercial and municipal collection and/or treatment projects. These activities include, but are not limited to, proposals, plan reviews, design review letters, specifications, project submittals, project specific drawings, quotes, and custom O&M manuals.
    • Researches, reviews, and processes orders for commercial and municipal collection and/or treatment projects.
    • Assists in research projects under the guidance of other senior systems engineers.
    • Supports in the commissioning of commercial systems, when applicable.

    > Reporting

    • Thoroughly documents all tasks and customer interactions in CRM (Customer Relations Management).
    • Inputs, updates, and ensures accuracy of customer contact information in CRM.
    • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, CRM opportunity database.
    • Submits and distributes timely activity and trip reports.
    • Communicates distributor/dealer needs back to Regional Team.

    > Becomes familiar with all Orenco-related products and technologies.

    > Becomes familiar with all state and local regulatory rules.

    > Will occasionally perform additional duties of systems engineering team, the regional sales team, asset management and customer service team.

    > Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed. Occasional long hours may be required.

    > Regular, consistent, & predictable attendance is required.

    > Performs other duties as assigned.


    EDUCATION:

    An AS engineering degree or equivalent is required. A BS degree in engineering is a plus.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

    • Two years' experience in water/wastewater field a plus.
    • Ability to learn quickly and apply engineering skills to problem solving and analysis.
    • Above average organizational skills are required.
    • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, customer service-oriented manner.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Ability to give technical presentations to a large audience.
    • Ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and extreme variations in educational levels.
    • Competent ability with applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, and email.
    • Able and willing to travel a minimum of 10% of the work time. This requirement will fluctuate depending on the region assignments, market maturity, other regional resources, territory size, business needs and other objectives.
    • Ability to travel includes meeting current travel requirements with airlines as well as in final destinations.
    • Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
    • Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
    • Must have satisfactory driving record, maintain valid driver's license, and current insurance on personal vehicle if used for business. Must meet company insurability requirements.

    Office environment with occasional exposure to outside elements when traveling or conducting field work.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Primarily office environment. Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, prolonged periods of sitting including extended time viewing a computer screen. Intermittent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, driving, and occasional light lifting of under 20 lbs.

    May also include occasional unassisted lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 70 lbs. Lifting over 70 lbs. must be assisted.

    Travel requirements may include operation of a motor vehicle, airplane travel, and overnight stays in temporary lodging. Requires the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations. Includes exposure to outside weather conditions when at customer sites. Conducting field work may include occasional exposure to wastewater, requiring proper use of personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves.
