Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Pay rate depends on experience and certification. Potential for growth beyond $20 an hour.

Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
· Making our patients feel welcomed and valued
· Complete medical history taking
· Basic patient work up such as checking visual acuity, measuring eye pressure, and dilating patients.
· Diagnostic testing including refractions, VFs, OCTs, fundus and disc photos and corneal topography
· Assisting with minor surgical procedures
All staff are required to wear a mask in the facility and have to be vaccinated if he/she does not qualify for an exclusion listed by California.
Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time. Lifting required up to 30 pounds.
