Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Full-time/40 hours/week/M-F, the Ophthalmic Technician works closely with the Medical Services staff as part of a patient oriented team to provide quality patient care. The technician performs various ophthalmic testing to capture accurate and quality images for the physicians. The technician communicates effectively and professionally with courtesy and respect to team members at all levels.
Minimum skill requirements: One year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician preferred or will consider other medical experience.
