Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. Northeast Albuquerque, New Mexico private optometry practice currently has an opening for an Optician to become part of our growing team. Our Optical staff delivers excellent customer service by educating and selling the best possible eyewear solution for each customer's needs. Our experienced staff takes optical measurements necessary for eyewear preparation; orders eyewear from the laboratory based on prescription and patient preference, and performs quality inspection of lenses and frames and dispensing frames to patients. The Optician will be responsible for ordering and maintaining the frame inventory to ensure profitable optical sales and fashionable selection for our patient base. Front office duties may include answering the phones, scheduling appointments and pulling insurance authorizations.
Part Time:
Monday -10:00a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Wed and Friday 8:00a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Job Requirements
We are seeking candidates with the skills and abilities to perform the following duties:
•Strong technical skills including neutralizing prismatic prescriptions with a manual lensometer.
•Inspect completed glasses and interpret ANSI tolerance charts.
•Adjust eyewear to patient, using appropriate tools and instruct on cleaning/handling.
•Make any necessary repairs using appropriate parts and tools.
•Maintain equipment and inventory of frames and supplies.
•Maintain accurate patient records.
•Enters all sales data completely and accurately at point of sale.
•Maintains Optical Shop cleanliness and appearance for display of goods and equipment.
•Maintains smooth customer flow during hours of operation.
•Monitors wait times for service and for goods ordered--keeping customers informed on what we are doing to resolve problem.
•Perform all necessary phone calls regarding eyeglass prescriptions, obtaining insurance authorizations, ordering supplies and answering patient questions.
•Return weekly lenses and frames under warranty.
•Aid in posting optical charges and in keeping cash drawer balanced.

Education Requirements
H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
ABO Certification preferred.
Minimum three years of optical experience in dispensing and optical laboratory.
Excellent computer skills required.
