Optician measures and fits contact lenses and eyeglass frames based on prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. Takes precision measurements of eyes using a pupilometer and other devices to ensure proper fit of eyeglasses or contact lenses. Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. May process work orders and sales. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Applicable License. Requires Licensed Optician. Typically reports to a manager. OSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by providing efficient optical skills to patients for their eyewear needs. The Optician possess a wide range of knowledge applicable to eye care and current eyewear and ensures patients are fitted with frames that fit their needs and lifestyle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides excellent customer service to patients.
Ensures that patients are properly educated regarding their visual needs and available lens options.
Maintains emphasis on profitable operations while satisfying patient needs.
Works with other managers to ensure comprehensive completion of all operational tasks.
Styles, measures, adjusts, sells, and dispenses eyewear.
Notify patients of eyewear progress/arrival.
Ensures that all dispensary-related objectives are met.
Ability to assess and resolve, when possible, patient issues regarding prescription eyewear.
Provides guidance and retains knowledge of vision insurance policies.
Review and verify accuracy of eyewear prescriptions.
Answering phones, collecting payment, processing daily reports, and tracking of prescriptions and frames.
Manages the efforts for properly filing insurance for eyeglass claims.
Travel may be required to surrounding HEA offices to provide Optician coverage when needed.
Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs, including but not limited to:
o Schedule appointments
o Order & check in contacts
o Check Voicemail and take care of inquiries
o Insertion Removal Training
o Scan Invoices for Hard Contacts
o Handle patient complaints, refunds concerns
o Verify/File insurance for contact purchases
Qualifications/ Skills Requirements

Skilled in the use of manual lensometer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Work is performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations.

COMPETENCIES
EDUCATION High School Diploma or equivalent
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES Obtain ABO (ABOC) certification required. Applicants without certification will have a one-year grace period to obtain. (Reference: HR Policy 104: Certification Requirements)
EXPERIENCE Three (3) years or more experience in optical dispensary and operations.
Extensive experience and understanding of all aspects of operations related to modern optical dispensary.
LOCATIONS Primary being League City and Pearland with Gramercy occasionally.
