Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. Duties:
- Assist customers in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses based on their prescription and style preferences.
- Take accurate measurements of customers' eyes and facial features to ensure proper fit and comfort.
- Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and treatments to meet their visual needs.
- Adjust and repair eyewear as needed to ensure proper fit and functionality.
- Process orders for eyewear, including verifying insurance coverage, submitting claims, and coordinating with labs for production.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Maintain inventory of eyewear frames, lenses, and accessories, including ordering new stock as needed.
- Keep accurate records of customer prescriptions, orders, and payments using electronic systems such as Epic or other medical records systems.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in opticianry preferred.
- Previous experience as an optician or in a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of retail math principles for pricing and sales transactions.
- Familiarity with aseptic technique for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the dispensing area.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records systems for medical billing and recordkeeping purposes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
