Cascade Vision Center is a progressive and growing optometry office that empowers our staff to provide both top quality eye care and the best possible patient experience. We are seeking an individual who shares our passion for patient care to serve as a full-time or part-time Optician. 

As an Optician, your role would involve:

• working directly with patients to fit and dispense eyewear;
• managing frames inventory to ensure it is appropriate for customer base (identifying needs for restocking best sellers and selecting new frames);
• transmitting and checking in jobs to/from the lab and notifying patients of eyewear ready for pickup;
• sales for both walk-in patients and following transitions from doctor exams;
• verifying insurance coverage and explaining benefits to patients;
• documenting measurements and patient care data in electronic medical records;
• maintaining a clean and tidy optical; 
• collaborating with our team of physicians, opticians, technicians, and other staff; and
• helping ensure smooth functioning of routine office operations (answering phones, scheduling patients). 

Working in the optical gallery, the optician is often the first staff member that patients see upon arrival, so this role requires a friendly and outgoing demeanor to begin the patient encounter on a positive note. Opticians will cultivate new relationships with first time customers and develop a trust with returning clients in finding the best eyewear to fit each customer’s unique needs. Our optical galleries in both Seattle and Renton operate on a walk-in basis and tend to be busy. These fast-paced environments require someone who is able to maintain a professional demeanor and provide top notch customer service even in high-stress situations. All applicants must possess superior communication skills and be able to think quickly to resolve issues. 

The successful candidate will work primarily in our Seattle clinic, but will also work occasional shifts and provide cross-coverage in our Renton clinic. Reliable transportation to both locations is necessary. This position reports to the office manager and must be able to work both independently as well as part of a collaborative team within the two offices.

Minimum required skills/abilities:

• At least 1 year prior experience as an optician. 
• Knowledge of how to take measurements for eyeglasses and ability to problem-solve eyeglass complaints/errors.
• Experience making frame styling and lens suggestions.
• Prior use of electronic medical records systems (preferably Revolution)
• Experience with insurance verification.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Possess a track record of excellent customer service and the initiative to create a welcoming atmosphere for our patients.
• Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with office staff, physicians, and patients.
• Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional preferred skills/abilities:

• Licensed dispensing optician (LDO) is preferred.
• Experience with insurance coding and billing.

Other requirements:

• Must be available to work weekdays (8:00 am -5:00 pm) and at least 2 Saturdays per month (8:30 am - 3:00 pm). Occasional later evening hours may be necessary. 
• Must be available to attend monthly all-staff meetings beginning at 7:30 am.
• Must have reliable transportation to both office locations.
• Must be willing to cross-train as a technician for patient pre-testing to cover staffing needs on an occasional basis.
• As per Washington State law, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (including booster, if applicable) and provide documentation of vaccination status.

• Cascade Vision Center, 4300 Talbot Rd. S., STE 400, Renton, WA 98055 (clinic hours: Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00-2:00 pm)

Pay: We offer competitive hourly pay starting from $25/hr and depending on experience.
