Optician jobs in Wichita, KS
Optician measures and fits contact lenses and eyeglass frames based on prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. Takes precision measurements of eyes using a pupilometer and other devices to ensure proper fit of eyeglasses or contact lenses. Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. May process work orders and sales. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Applicable License. Requires Licensed Optician. Typically reports to a manager. This person is familiar with all frames carried by the practice and the various lens materials and options available. This person is also fully aware of every insurance the practice accepts and is able to explain insurance benefits to patients.

1. Assists patients with frame and lens selections, coating options, repairs and adjustments
2. Educates patients on lens and frame options in relation to lifestyle needs, trains patients on care of eyewear
3. Provides benefits counseling
4. Assists with frame board management; enters frames into inventory, helps choose frame lines
5. Establishes value packages and special offerings
6. Tracks key statistics: total eyewear sales, multiple pairs, dispensing ratios
7. Maintains the appearance of the dispensary, responsible for dispensing equipment and supply levels, organizes product literature
8. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
