    JOB SUMMARY

    Responsible for design, deployment, maintenance, and consistency of Brotherhood Mutual’s various database architectures, as well as providing input and participation in the areas of SQL training and development, data architecture maintenance, and the overall data quality within the organization.

     

    POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for the design and implementation of database systems and applying them to corporate data and their associated storage architectures.
    • Ensure the accessibility, availability, and integrity of the databases and data that are utilized by various applications throughout the company.
    • Collaborate with and coach Information Technology developers, as well as business users, in the analysis, modeling, and testing of data-centric requirements for our ongoing development activities.
    • Responsible for identifying, understanding, and meeting the data servicing, performance, and scalability requirements; including monitoring, analyzing, and tuning data access and data processing.
    • Participate in the business analysis and design process for IT projects.
    • Maintain an appropriate level of consistency among databases supporting our various applications, products, and platforms.
    • Responsible for database setup and support of development environments; ensuring integrity, performance, scalability, and longevity.
    • Perform database maintenance and upgrade activities including data recovery, data rebuilds, and database deployments for all environments.
    • Support BI developers in creating and maintaining appropriate data storage structures to support the ongoing needs of BI activities.
    • Responsible for meeting Recovery Point and Recovery Time Objectives for all database platforms.
    • Ensure responsible application database software is as current as possible with respect to versions, patching, and cumulative updates.
    • Complete other projects as assigned.

    • Expertise in database management (database design, data modeling, SQL, backup & recovery, integrity, performance tuning, security, high-availability) is required.
    • Proven ability to foster a team environment with open communication, coaching, and strong collaboration toward team goals.
    • Must be detailed-oriented with a demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and scope support work.
    • Proven project management skills within a team oriented environment are required.
    • Must possess strong written, and verbal skills.
    • Proven ability to coach other IT staff in database concepts.
    • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.

     

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • An Associate's degree in an Information Technology-related field or equivalent degree is required.
    • Two years of experience modeling and deploying various database architectures required.
    • Certifications within the Database Professional field is desired.
    • Experience with database modeling, insurance-related data structures, and deployment software is desired.
    • Background in an IBM i DB2 or MS SQL Server database environments is desired.
