Organizational Development Manager manages all aspects of organizational development. Operations Manager - Gore Mountain

  • The Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) is seeking a proven leader in the ski and ride industry to become its next Operations Manager for Gore Mountain. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of mountain operations at Gore with the objective of producing an outstanding product for Gore Mountain guests. The Operations Manager will report directly to the General Manager. This position is located in North Creek, New York.

    Gore Mountain, located in the southern Adirondacks, is a premier ski and ride resort with 2,537 feet of vertical drop. As New York State’s largest ski and ride center, Gore offers seven distinct mountain areas where guests enjoy 14 lifts, 108 trails, and a Nordic Center. Coming improvements include the North Creek Ski Bowl Lodge, a Zip Coaster, and the new Hudson Chair Quad. The 18,300 square foot lodge will be a full-service hub for year-round activities, offering a restaurant and two levels of patios with slopeside views. The Zip Coaster will be a unique attraction to the Northeast that combines the features of a zipline with a rail system and the new lift is planned to be available for the 2024-25 ski and ride season.

    This position is responsible for the oversight of approximately ten departments that perform the work necessary to support mountain operations, including lift operations, lift maintenance, snowmaking, grooming, trail maintenance, terrain parks, ski patrol, electric, vehicle maintenance, and building and grounds. Daily activities required to complete job assignments may include climbing ladders, standing or being seated for extended periods, walking on mountainous grades, skiing and/or riding on all terrain, exposure to cold winter conditions and/or exposure to hot summer conditions. Work on holidays as well as work outside the normal workday will be required as is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and/or meet critical deadlines.

    Essential Duties (this list is not exhaustive):

    · Operations

    o Implement approved operational plans to meet ski area objectives.

    o Develop, implement, and document approved year-round maintenance plans and procedures across all operational departments.

    o Mentor staff and provide a work environment that fosters teamwork and success.

    o Ensure effective operations and a safe environment for guests and employees through regular training and adhering to applicable operational plans as well as safety protocols.

    o Manage and protect Olympic Authority assets.

    · Fiscal

    o Manage expenses of the operational and maintenance departments to accurately and effectively coincide with business levels and needs.

    Ø Continually monitor payroll expenses and modify schedules based on operational necessity and economic efficiency

    o Manage department maintenance plans and projects to ensure adherence to budget and on-time completion.

    · Represent Gore and the Olympic Authority as required at industry events such as Ski Areas of New York, LMS training, and education events.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Must be an advanced level or higher skier or rider and have five years of experience in a managerial/supervisory role at a comparably sized ski resort. A high school diploma and valid driver’s license are required.

    Other Considerations:

    The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to effectively communicate objectives and expectations as well as motivate staff to execute plans. Must be a creative problem solver with excellent time-management skills.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The targeted hiring rate for this position is $85,000 - $95,000/year. This position is classified as a Grade 23 Assistant Venue Manager on the Olympic Authority’s Management Confidential Salary Schedule which carries a salary range of $69479 - $111,166 per year.

    The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (parental, sick, vacation, and personal time); paid holidays; health, dental, and vision insurance; long term disability and supplemental life insurance at preferred rates; participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems; and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation.
