The Buffalo Trace Area Development District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Specialist. The Project Specialist will work directly under the advisement of the Community Development Director with oversight of current projects and potential future projects, as well as programs within the Planning and Development Department. The Specialist will work to develop and administer certain programs and projects for the region. Daily work activities may include, but are not limited to, coordination and oversight of both existing and potential future projects and programs, grant writing, and project administration.
The Planning and Development Department works with various types of projects in areas of Infrastructure Planning, Comprehensive Planning, Housing, Community Facilities, Community Development, Recreation, Emergency Services, Energy, and many others. The Specialist will be expected to learn and apply various state and federal programs, and their funding, towards project development. Programs include, but are not limited to, USDA Rural Development, Appalachian Regional Commission, Economic Development Administration, Community Development Block Grant, various funding administered through the Kentucky Department for Local Government, Energy and Environmental Cabinet, Homeland Security, FEMA, and many others. Existing knowledge or past working experience in these programs is a plus for any candidate.
- Successful candidates should be able to possess and demonstrate abilities with planning, project administration, collaboration, coordination, budgeting, reporting, and other such duties necessary to provide oversight of projects.
- Candidates should be able to work under the direction of the Director, but also being able to work independently with assigned tasks.
- Candidates must have good verbal and communication skills, be able to maintain good working relationships with funding agencies and project partners, possess good writing skills, be detail oriented and organized, be personable, and be willing to learn new duties as needed.
- Candidates must be able to multi-task and handle various projects simultaneously.
- Comprehension and implementation of both written material and verbal instruction is important, as is having initiative to self-educate on programs or funding when necessary.
- Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or similar field.
- Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s license.
