Job Title: Sr. Staff Accountant
FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt
General Definition: Under general direction, incumbent is responsible for performing
complex accounting and analytical financial management work
requiring professional knowledge of theories, principles, and
practices of accounting.
Supervision Received: Accounting Manager
Supervision Exercised: N/A
Essential Job Functions:
• Review and analyze general ledger account balance and make recommendations for
corrections.
• Review and interpret financial records.
• Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports for management.
• Trace and reconcile records of financial transactions.
• Create and update policies and procedures relating to safeguarding GMC's assets.
• Coordinate external and internal audits, including preparing audit schedules, updating the
notes to the financial statements, coordinating audit timeline, and facilitating audit requests.
• Coordinate special projects and assignments, including inventory, actuarial reports, etc.
• Provide assistance with the budget process.
• Assist in implementation or modifications of accounting and other information systems.
• Work on special projects as needed.
• Post, maintain and review daily activity into general ledger accounts by tracking on
spreadsheets and posting to the system.
• Provide monthly variances for assigned budget areas.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• MBA or other advance degree preferred
Training and Experience:
• Five (5) years’ related work experience
• Previous accounting experience in budgeting, fixed asset management and/or financial
reporting
• Must be able to pass Title 31 Training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong business acumen and sufficient Financial Accounting knowledge to be able to
understand impact on P&L from reporting
• Advanced computer literacy with specific proficiency in Word and Excel
• Exhibit strong analytical and critical thinking skills with strong detail focus
• Must have initiative to work independently, with little or no direct supervision
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate
problems and translate solutions in a manner that can easily be understood by customers,
team members and management
• Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently, work proactively, and achieve
results without close supervision
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
• Must be able to pass a background check and receive/maintain a license or permit from the
Shawnee Tribe’s Gaming Commission
• Must be able to complete pre-employment drug test with a negative result
