    Qualifications

    To qualify for the position of IT Specialist (INFOSEC), (GS-2210-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

    BASIC REQUIREMENT:

    Applicants must have IT-related education and/or experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below at a proficiency equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.

    Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

    Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

    Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

    Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    Specialized Experience:

    You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

    Specialized Experience: GS-11; You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience in advising on the basics of network security (e.g., encryption, firewalls, authentication, honey pots, perimeter protection). Examples of qualifying specialized experience at the next lower level for this position includes: (a) Presenting written reports on operational issues related to IT systems; AND (b) Experience with development of cybersecurity policies and standards.     OR:

    Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree; your education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

    OR:

    Combination of education and experience as described above. Less than one year of specialized experience may be combined with graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level (i.e., credit hours beyond the first two years of full-time study may be credited).

    Specialized Experience: GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Advising on the basics of Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) (e.g., Identify, Protect, Detect, Defend and Recover). Examples of qualifying specialized experience at the next lower level for this position includes: (a) Experience with IT methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity; (b) Experience assisting in information technology (IT) configuration, installation, maintenance of network system components, such as servers, computer hardware and software, firewalls, hubs, switches, and/or routers; AND (c) Experience with development of cybersecurity policies and standards.
