Organizational Psychologist studies and assesses the organizations workforce, management, culture, business objectives, and challenges using psychological principles and research methods. Designs and develops programs and tools that will be appropriate for the needs of the organization and which will assist employees and management to better achieve desired goals. Being an Organizational Psychologist utilizes various methods including employee surveys, focus groups, skill assessments, performance appraisals, and other feedback mechanisms to assist management in identifying issues and driving improvements. Creates solutions and programs that may be focused on employee selection, job training, leadership training, workplace and family issues, and change management. Additionally, Organizational Psychologist requires a master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Organizational Psychologist works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.     AVP Organizational Development

     

    The Opportunity: Make a significant impact in shaping organizational culture and driving strategic change initiatives!

     

    Summary

     

    The AVP OD provides organizational consultation in change management, organization planning/design and performance issues and works in partnership with HR and client groups to design and orchestrate organization development initiatives that address corporate goals and strategies.  This position provides advice and support aimed at building organization cohesion, health and flexibility.

     

    Scope

     

    The AVP OD is accountable for the overall integration, deliver and monitoring of  change management, organization planning and organization design services to the organization. 

    • Accountable for the full cycle of organizational consulting  - diagnosis, assessment, design, contracting, coaching and or counseling , and evaluation -  to Divisions and Functions as needed.
    • Works closely with VPs and AVPs to plan and implement OD projects and strategies that align the talent, culture, work processes and structure elements with the organization’s strategic priorities.
    • Carries out organization assessments, makes recommendations for change, helps to design new structures and jobs and works to redesign management processes that create organization health and associate engagement.
    • Codifies organization best practices to ensure the appropriate application across TJX.
    • Serves an  OD knowledge expert to HR and line managers regarding organizational planning, change management and organization design. 
    • Liaison with external OD experts to stay continuously informed and updated on innovative and cutting edge organizational consulting practices and OD content.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Works at the strategic level across TJX.

    • Develop strategic partnerships with HR and division leadership teams, and other internal clients to identify and intervene on change management, organizational planning and organization design initiatives that foster organization learning and meet Division and TJX strategic goals and needs.
    • Proactively addresses and responds to OD issues by bringing key stakeholders together to assess root causes and performance gaps, implementing and or supporting strategic planning, tactical and project planning, facilitation, instruction, program design, materials development and performance analysis.
    • Gives advice and develops interventions about impacts resulting from whole organization changes.
    • Provides project management for organization-wide projects/ initiatives as required, facilitating team efforts and helping to define project goals, timelines, resource requirements and planning to cope with conflict or stressor points in the plans.
    • Consults with organization administration regarding strategic planning sessions for groups to clarify, communicate and act upon the vision and goals of their department within the vision and goals of their program or department within the context of the organization’s mission, vision and values.
    • Provides organization-wide assessments about organization health and effectiveness so that change e projects can be prioritized and brought to successful completion.
    • Tracks the number of and status of prioritized change projects.  Helps to structure designs for and implements organization change; makes recommendations to senior executives.
    • Assesses risks associated with various change initiatives/ projects and suggests and implements actions to manage any negative impacts.
    • Supports the work of external consultants brought in to do various projects by various groups in the Divisions by providing them with information about the organization, helping with implementation of their projects, and ensuring that assessment of the OD intervention is conducted.

     

     

    Works with Groups /Teams

     

    • Focuses on improving group  and department functioning.  Facilitates planning and interaction to improve group and department productivity, decision-making and performance in a team based cultural environment.
    • Identifies and uses instruments and surveys to analyze individual and group behavior and recommends strategies for making needed changes.
    • Influences and supports changes in organizational behavior.  Serves as an internal consultant to facilitate team building, resolving work group conflict, changes in group norms values and culture.
    • Coaches HR and line managers to expand their leadership and change management competencies.

     

    Planning

     

    • Facilitates planning processes for departments, Functions and Divisions as requested.

     

    Specifications

    Education:

    • Minimum of college or professional development in Organization Development, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology or other relevant behavioral science.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 10- 15  years professional level experience in Organization Development in a company the size of TJX or larger.
    • Comfort in working with Executive leadership.
    • Experience in group processes, conflict resolution and team building.
    • Experience in program design and instructional experience in the areas of leadership, communication and quality improvement.
    • Excellent leadership and influence skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

     

    Technical:

    • OD theories, philosophies and methods, organizational analysis and change skills.
    • Organizational behavior development working knowledge.
    • Employee involvement and recognition programs working knowledge.
    • Training and development needs analysis, program development and delivery.
    • Ability to teach and give feedback.
    • Ability to coach HR and managers.
    • Advance level strategic project and work planning, non-authority leadership, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making, employee development and team building skills.
    • Strong personal impact; high stress and ambiguity tolerance, analytical, market/selling, counseling and coaching, respectful confrontation; behavior modeling, overcoming resistance and conflict management skills.
    • Ability to negotiate and influence within a collaborative network.
    • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future trends/ consequences and create innovative strategies and flexible plans.

    This position has a starting salary range of $139900.00 to $181700.00 per year.

    Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.

    This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
