Orthopedic Technician applies and adjusts plaster casts and assembles and attaches orthopedic traction equipment and devices as directed by a physician. Sets up bed traction units or rigs special devices as required, and inspects and adjusts bandages and equipment. Being an Orthopedic Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, completion of Orthopedic Technician training and certification program. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The orthopaedic cast technician provides patient care in an ambulatory clinic setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician. The technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting by fabricating, applying, maintaining and removing casts, splints, Orthopaedic soft goods and other musculoskeletal dressing and appliances and by assisting other nursing staff and health care providers with daily patient flow, as well as exams and simple and complex procedures. Ensures appropriate visit notes and test and/or X-ray results are available for visit. Performs clinic-specific technical skills. Maintains clinic environment, including supplies and equipment. The orthopaedic cast technician may also perform clerical, insurance and medical records functions. May be required to float to other practices as needed for staffing.
Shift hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday
