    Counselor at Outpatient Treatment Center provides assessment, treatment planning, individual, group and family counseling, education and case management in an outpatient drug treatment center. Maintains detailed and accurate written records in compliance with Medi-Cal and County requirements, as well as CARF standards. Participates in clinical supervision and quality assurance reviews. Attends mandatory program and agency staff meetings. Assists in developing program goals.
    Essential duties include interviewing patients, reviewing records and conferring with other professionals and staff members in the development of individualized treatment plans. Assists patients in identifying and progressing toward their chosen goals. Advocates for clients in all areas of treatment. Provides prompt intervention in case of a crisis, both to stop the crisis and to notify persons and agencies necessary for the resolution of the situation. Counsels clients individually and in group sessions. Provides therapeutic treatment and strategies for relapse prevention. Counsels family members to assist them in understanding substance use disorders and supporting clients in treatment. Refers clients to other support services as needed, such as medical treatment, social services, housing services and employment services. Monitors condition of clients to evaluate success of treatment and adapts treatment as needed. Prepares and maintains reports and case histories. Participates in continuing quality improvement processes and evaluating the effectiveness of the program. Enforces the policies and procedures of Outpatient Treatment Center and Community Human Services.
    Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or a High School Diploma or GED with five years of work experience in a related field (Human Services, Counseling, Psychology or Social Work). The equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or personal recovery may be substituted for the above. Must be a registered or certified alcohol and drug counselor. Experience in ASAM assessments, Medi-Cal and evidence-based best practices highly desired. Two years clean and sober if in recovery. Knowledge of community resources used in treatment and case management. Basic computer skills and ability to learn technology. Oral and written communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, families, community agencies and professionals. Crisis intervention skills and ability to perform in crisis situations. Ability to exercise appropriate judgment, decision making and counselor/client boundaries.

    Salary if Registered $48,271 - $58,674 if Certified $50,146- $60,952 annually D.O.E. Additional 5% if bilingual (E/S). Generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage. AA/EOE.
