    Position Description:

    Under the general direction of the Hoapili Principal Investigators, the PACS 302 Instructor will provide the following:

    • Teach PACS 302 Contemporary Issues in Oceania to Native Hawaiian students in the NHSS sheltered field school program.
    • Incorporate traditional Hawaiian knowledge and texts into the curriculum.
    • Other related tasks and/or duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Masters degree in Hawaiian Language, Linguistics, Education, Ethnic Studies, or closely related field
    2. Teaching experience in college level courses
    3. Experience in the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous education
    4. Demonstrated ability to present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing and verbally

    Desired Qualifications:


    1. PhD in Linguistics, Education or closely related field
    2. Evidence of ability to teach effectively
    3. Ability to teach Pacific Island Studies while teaching toward the learning outcomes of PACS 302 at UH Manoa
    4. Familiarity with a range of perspectives and experiences of Native Hawaiian students in the social sciences
    5. Familiarity with institutional barriers for Native Hawaiian students in higher education and best practices for Native Hawaiian student success
