Packaging Machine Operator sets up and operates a packaging machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Fills, secures, and labels containers according to company and/or customer specifications. Being a Packaging Machine Operator verifies goods packaged against package invoices. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Additionally, Packaging Machine Operator adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Documents inventory number and weight, and organizes packages. May make minor repairs to packaging equipment as needed. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Packaging Machine Operator works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to accurately operate a high-speed machine to cut, count, and wind rolls to customer specifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear foot and other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. May continuously stand for an extended period and stoop, bend, and kneel frequently. May handle, feel, and reach for items in and around the press area and continuously grasp product. Moderate to frequent lifting,d lifting, and moving up to 50 lbs (20 lbs repetitively) is required. This job's specific vision abilities include close & distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and ability to distinguish color variations, and peripheral and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer-mandated deadlines. The physical demands described above represent those an employee must successfully meet to perform this job's essential functions.
