Packaging Machine Operator sets up and operates a packaging machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Fills, secures, and labels containers according to company and/or customer specifications. Being a Packaging Machine Operator verifies goods packaged against package invoices. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Additionally, Packaging Machine Operator adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Documents inventory number and weight, and organizes packages. May make minor repairs to packaging equipment as needed. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Packaging Machine Operator works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Independently operate motor power vehicles such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, forklifts, graders, gradalls, tractor- trailers, drag-lines, claim shells, and other equipment associated with roads and grounds, utilities and facilities maintenance. Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignments.
Operate lifting devices and attach and position cables and ropes. Check equipment prior to and after operations. Secure and protect loads with tarps, covers, slings, cables and ropes. Load and unload vehicles. Perform preventive maintenance inspections, noting any discrepancies for assignment to Heavy Equipment Mechanic for corrective action. Perform required operators maintenance. May provide guidance and direction to lower classified employees, as required. Maintain logs and records, as required. Possess and maintain valid certifications, licenses, permits, as required, for performance of assigned tasks.
High school graduate/GED, Driver License
