Our Automotive client has engaged an Engineering Search Firm to assist in finding a Corporate Packaging Engineer, the Corporate Packaging Engineer (Cambridge, Ontario) is responsible to manage and coordinate the design, development and validation of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analysis of proposed packaging concepts for new and existing parts for any of its sister companies.
Corporate Packaging Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with outside suppliers, developing, and issuing RFQ’s for packaging related materials, supporting the launch of container designs and resolving packaging concerns with current container designs. The role also includes development and maintenance of container fleet information and related materials records and will report to management on container /packaging /material issues.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and lead in the development of prototype packaging using appropriate materials such as folding cartons, plastic or foil, stretch wrap, foam and appropriate corrugated or other form of shipping container.
- Coordinate and lead in the design and development of packaging solutions for cost effective shipping of WIP and finished products
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to conceptualize container design, conducts plant reviews to obtain approvals and collect feedback, follows containers in transit to each touch point to validate that container does not contribute to part damage and documents all findings/approvals to affected parties
- Works with cross-functional teams at all levels to ensure containers take into consideration production efficiencies as well as ergonomics to protect the operators during loading / unloading.
- Support the activities of outside contractors including quotes and builds of packaging designs released to outside suppliers.
- Develops and maintains packaging instruction sheets and all packaging databases.
- May confer with customers or sales engineers in the development of returnable containers and expendable packaging
- Advise management, plant personnel and customers on efficient packaging/container procedures, innovations in packaging materials and utilization of containers
- Actively participate in Continuous Improvement Activities.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- College diploma in packaging program with a minimum of five 2-5 years related experience
- Automotive experience is an asset
- Knowledge of Spinfire and CAD is an asset.
- Computer literacy along with strong organizational and communication skills is required
