Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience. Dauphin County Solicitor's Office is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Paralegal. The overall objective of the employee in this role is to perform paraprofessional work that is time-bound and crucial to the operation of county government. The position will assist the Chief Solicitor, Part Time Assistant Solicitors, and Associate Attorney in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Solicitor’s Office. The employee in this role is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions:
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in paralegal or legal assistant or, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or a bachelor’s degree with a certificate in paralegal studies. A minimum of two years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or other relevant position. Experience working in a government office is preferred. A favorable background check is required.
