Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience. Paralegal – Full time with benefits, paid vacation and holidays. Must be organized with good people/phone skills and able to multi-task under deadlines. Must be able to communicate effectively with attorneys and clients with particular sensitivity to the needs of survivors of domestic violence. Performs legally substantive work under the supervision of attorneys. The position will entail conducting initial client intakes, preparing pleadings, correspondence and memos, preparing and answering discovery, setting hearings, organizing and chronicling exhibits, working with attorneys to prepare for mediation and trial, conducting legal research, regularly updating case management database and front desk coverage. Microsoft Word mandatory and must be able to type minimum 45 WPM. Candidates must be computer proficient and capable of learning specialized case management software. Family law experience required and legal research experience preferred. Bilingual a plus. Non-smoking work environment. Our work weeks are 37.5 hours a week with at least one day of working from home unless required to be in the office.
