Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience. The Paralegal will assist the legal department by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation, assembly, and review; coordination of contact between outside counsel and employees; interviewing witnesses; performing research, investigations, and fact-checking; maintaining calendaring for deadlines and other matters; and preparation.
DCH Standards:
High School graduate or equivalent; previous office experience; computer knowledge and skills required; Must possess or acquire with in 3 months of hire the ability to utilizeBasic Microsoft Office skills required in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
Extensive legal or business operation experience preferred; degree in paralegal studies also preferred. Must be able to obtain notary public bonds and other fidelity insurance requirements.
Requires typing, verbal and written communication skills; able to operate a variety of office equipment to include but no limited to fax, copier, scanner, telephone, calculator, computer, etc.
Must be organized and possess the ability to prioritize and multitask.
