Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience. Fast growing personal injury firm serving Virginia and North Carolina clients. The ideal candidate will have experience as a plaintiff’s personal injury paralegal or legal assistant. This a paralegal case manager position; the person filling this position will be responsible for managing only injury cases and the collection and organization of documents and information from various cases at the firm. This candidate should feel comfortable relaying messages between various groups and keeping all documents important to the cases they are working on organized.
About the Job
- Communicate professionally and often with clients, reaching out and keeping clients informed about the progress of their case.
- Draft for attorney review and organize legal documents, including as needed draft pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
- Maintain accurate and organized digital case files, ensuring all relevant information is readily accessible.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments, meetings, and court dates.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, with a preference for personal injury experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF software.
- Experience with Needles or NEOS Case Management software is advantageous.
- VA and NC Notary certification is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and superb organizational abilities.
