Paramedic provides emergency advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Conducts patient assessment to determine the extent of an illness or injury and to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Being a Paramedic performs life support procedures or administers oxygen. Dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids. Additionally, Paramedic performs other emergency medical procedures needed to stabilize patient during transport. Provides an update on patient's condition and status of treatments when transferring to other medical personnel. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in an accredited Paramedic program. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The Paramedic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. This posting is for 12-hour shifts in Metro Bakersfield. We also have rural station openings on 24-hour shifts in blocks of 2 shifts (48 hours at a time) available in West and North Kern County.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

Respond to medical emergencies in the community. Assess illnesses and injuries and administer basic to advanced emergency rescue and paramedical care. Provide medical treatment to the ill and injured and manage the illness or injury during transport. Prepare patients for transport via ambulance to hospital. Guide and support EMT’s in the application of appropriate EMS techniques. Operate emergency vehicle and equipment to care and transport the patient effectively. Complete patient records and transfer of information to healthcare provider. Provide compassionate patient care.
