Paramedic provides emergency advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Conducts patient assessment to determine the extent of an illness or injury and to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Being a Paramedic performs life support procedures or administers oxygen. Dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids. Additionally, Paramedic performs other emergency medical procedures needed to stabilize patient during transport. Provides an update on patient's condition and status of treatments when transferring to other medical personnel. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in an accredited Paramedic program. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The Paramedic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. The EMT-Paramedic assists with the delivery of patient care. Administers basic and advanced patient care in the Emergency Department setting under the EMT-Paramedic Job Performance Standards, EMT-Paramedic Competency Skills, and approved EMT Paramedic Hospital Protocols. The EMT-Paramedic must demonstrate the ability and willingness to participate in a Patient Care Team as a multi-skilled caregiver responsible for quality of own work and remain flexible in response to change.
Education/Experience:
High School equivalent
Graduate of an EMT-Paramedic Training from an Accredited
School by the MA Office of Emergency Medical Services.
Minimum of 1 year experience, 3 years preferred as an EMT-Paramedi
