May require a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Park Naturalist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     • Meet the visiting public, providing general assistance and information concerning available facilities and recreational opportunities. Participate in education and outreach by assisting Park Rangers with special events.
    • Create positive connections with the visiting public through land and water patrols while actively promoting the USACE Water Safety program.
    • Perform a variety of duties involving the operation and maintenance of area facilities to include safety, security, and service inspections.
    • Assist in inspecting and reporting on trespasses, encroachments, and damages to Government property. Perform environmental stewardship tasks as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
    • May work nights, weekends and holidays, as required.
    • Must wear a Corps of Engineers uniform or vest.

    • May work on a boat which requires Corps of Engineers certifications/licenses to assist with safety patrols.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     General and/or Specialized Experience GS-3: Six months of general experience which includes general experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of rules or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes supporting park management projects (involving areas such as fish and wildlife, recreation management and/or law enforcement); serving as a park guide or tour leader; supporting forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; assisting in developing policy related to protection, conservation, or preservation of park areas or similar operations.

    Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages.
