Park Naturalist plans, develops, and conducts programs to inform the public of historical, natural, and scientific features concerning national, state, or local parks. May require a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Park Naturalist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The year-round Seasonal Historical Park Interpreter is responsible for assisting with program development and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the public’s awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Cape Henlopen State Park. Duties will include assisting with the museum’s collection and working with historic weapons at Fort Miles. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
Job Duties:
· Interpret the history of Fort Miles to visitors daily.
· Lead school and public historical programs tied to state standards to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s cultural resources.
· Develop and maintain exhibits, park bulletin boards, and educational material.
· Assist with the museum’s artifact collection.
· Become black powder certified and fire a World War II-era artillery piece.
· Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
· Perform custodial services in restrooms, offices, and other rooms in the historic area.
