  • Minimum Qualifications

    There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Applicants must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.

    Duties Description
    The incumbent will be assigned operational duties related to the delivery of support services to the public and staff, as well as performing maintenance duties at Watkins Glen State Park and Catharine Valley Trail State Park.

    Under higher-level supervision, the incumbent’s duties will include:

    • Perform safety and operational tasks as assigned such as usage reports, routine inspections, lead seasonal orientations, conduct safety trainings, and serve as the facility safety representative.
    • Monitor and assist with park use, gorge, and parking operations as assigned.
    • Assist Park management with tracking of vehicle & equipment service, employee leave requests and staffing calendar, safety-related items, and other operational duties as assigned.
    • Assist in emergency situations, directing the public to minimize potential issues.
    • Answer routine questions from patrons including explaining park rules and regulations, providing directions and other information.
    • Perform grounds, building, equipment, or other maintenance tasks as directed, which may involve supervision of seasonal staff members.

    OPERATING NEEDS:

    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must be able to follow written directions, as well as record and document required information.
    • Must have knowledge of good safety practices.
    • Must have good organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to multi-task.
    • Must have basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Word & Excel.
    • The incumbent will be required to act independently with minimal direct supervision in the performance of many of their duties.
