Being a Park Naturalist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     POSITION SUMMARY

    To maintain the Terrain Park's staff, operations, aesthetics, safety qualities, design and shape of features. To train staff on educating guests about safety and etiquette while ensuring the overall guest experience in the park.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    This position is responsible for the following job results.

    Designs and maintains the shape and integrity of all Mountain Bike Park features and trails
    • Communicating with Operations staff, Attendants and the Terrain Park Manager.
    • Overseeing the maintenance of features to include shoveling, armoring features, opening and or closing features as needed and delegating these duties when necessary


    • Ensures guest experience overseeing staff/guest interaction, developing and implementing a guest survey system to ensure a quality experience for everyone in the park. Being knowledgeable about all resort offerings. Overseeing ROSS sales counter and front-line staff/guest interaction


    Ensures the upkeep of the Park Log
    • Monitoring entries and checking to see that they are both current and accurate
    • Training employees in the correct documentation procedures


    Assists with the coordination of contests
    • Setting up and taking down fencing, judging areas and banners
    • Acting as a judge or course official, recording results and other duties as assigned and delegating the above duties when necessary


    Oversees the aesthetic qualities of the park grounds and facilities
    • Ensuring that trash is picked up, the facilities are kept neat and clean and that appropriate music and volume level policies are being followed


    • Oversees staffing issues scheduling employees and taking appropriate measures to guarantee adequate coverage to meet traffic levels in the park and at the ROSS sales counter


    Follows M.T.I. Practices maintaining a feedback log, conducting "one on one" meetings with employees, coaching and correcting when necessary and reviewing employee's performance

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

    DIRECT EXPERIENCE

    Education: This job requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

    Specific Experience: Basic computer skills, good knowledge of Mountain Biking Operations, advanced or expert biker.

    Length of Experience: 3 seasons biking; 1 in resort environment

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Any employee or volunteer who operates a company vehicle including cars, trucks, snowcats, snowmobiles, or heavy equipment is required to comply with the Driver's Standards Policy. This policy also applies to employees or volunteers driving their personal vehicles for company business more than four times per month, averaging 30 miles per trip. All drivers should receive a full copy of the Alterra Driver's Standards Policy; if you have not - please contact your Risk/Safety or HR/EE Department.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

    Office Environment:
    • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
    • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
    • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
    • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
    • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
    • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

    Mountain Environment:
    • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
    • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
    • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
    • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
    • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
    • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
