  • The Associate Pastor (AP) of Next Steps serves Union Church Charlotte by playing an instrumental role alongside the Lead Pastor in building, growing, and maintaining the campus and all pastoral care needs. This role is very pastoral in nature and will be best suited for a very mature individual who has experience supervising and leading large teams, platform communicating, leading huddles, transitions, and overseeing complex processes from a managerial standpoint. The individual will also be responsible for overseeing all efforts that ensure people from first-time visitors to leaders are engaged in taking their next steps here at Union Church. They will have direct oversight and responsibility over all of the assimilation, baptism, and communication aspects of the church. They will also supervise all aspects of Next Steps and Communications team development, including recruiting, training, and leadership growth, in addition to overseeing the health and growth of the teams and individuals involved.


    Main Responsibilities

    • Have direct oversight and responsibility over all Pastoral appointments (counseling, pre-marital counseling, weddings, hospital visits, funerals, etc.) and other Pastoral needs within Union Charlotte
    • Weekly lunch/coffee/on-campus appointments with campus leadership (Group leaders, Dream Team, potential leaders)
    • Continually building teams and developing people
    • Lead planning, implementation, and facilitation of all services
    • Assist with opening, closing, and prepping facility for all services/events
    • Create a high-touch environment (love, encourage, welcome people)
    • Seek out guests and facilitate an exceptional experience for them
    • Ensure all Growth Track (GT) events are equipped, resourced, and led with excellence and that participants receive their clear next step
    • Responsible for training all GT speakers at all campuses for successful leadership
    • Conduct quarterly GT training
    • Build relationships with the Growth Track Team
    • Ensure adequate collection and maintenance of data to ensure that Growth Track participants are engaging in their next step
    • Facilitate regular meetings with the Guest Experience Director and Groups Director to ensure that new visitors and members are taking next steps
    • Ensure process for baptism is clear, excellent, and consistently improving
    • Oversee all communication aspects in the church to ensure clarity and vision for attendees
    • Have full knowledge of Groups database
    • Resource all teams with necessary scheduling, communication & leadership tools to include Planning Center, and any other data collecting database needed
    • Ensure that baptisms are executed monthly in an excellent, life-giving, and efficient manner


    Other Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure all Next Steps (Growth Track and Dream Team) supplies are ordered, received, and available as needed
    • Maintain Next Steps (Growth Track and Dream Team) budgets for campus as directed by the Central Next Steps team
    • Monitor and report monthly defined measurables
    • Follow accounting procedures and manage Next Steps paperwork for accounting purposes
    • Assist in preparing the facility throughout the week for upcoming services, Groups, events, etc
    • Assist in maintaining the excellence inside & outside the facility
    • Assist in opening/closing of facility for Groups, and other on-campus meetings & activities


    Other Pastoral Responsibilities

    • Assist with pastoral care needs of the campus
    • Partner with the Groups Team on pastoral care issues and keep that team apprised on all related issues.
    • Be available as needed to assist in crisis situations, hospital visits, funerals, and/or weddings
    • Participate in “on-call ministry” rotation and Sunday altar ministry, as needed
    • Attend Sunday services, engage with new visitors
    • Set an example by attending Saturday morning prayer and all church events


    Budget Responsibilities

    • Forecast departmental spending for operations and facilities
    • Manage expenses from the department in accordance with Union financial systems
    • Code Expensify report and prepare it monthly to send reports to the Finance Department


      Relational Connections

      • Pastors, Coordinators, Coaches, Captains, Volunteer teams, Pastoral Staff, Congregation, and Vendors

      • Ensure that the Next Steps team is adequately staffed for Sunday Experiences, Baptisms, Fast Track
      • Recruit, train, and develop volunteer Next Steps team


      Experience and Knowledge Preferred

      • Bachelor's Degree preferred
      • 3-5 years of full time vocational ministry experience (including platform communicating and conducting pastoral care)
      • 5 years of experience leading in a high-capacity ministry role
      • 3-5 years of experience leading teams of diverse skillsets 


      Additional Expectations 

      • Flexible schedule (Workweek is Sunday-Thursday, night and weekend availability will be requested) 
      • Ability to lift 50 pounds
      • Ability to stand for 30 minutes
