Responsible for preparing and filing patent applications and trademark registrations, litigating pending applications and registrations, and reporting possible violations. Being a Patent Attorney prosecutes violations of organization's registrations and/or patents. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Additionally, Patent Attorney requires admittance to a state bar. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Patent Attorney work is closely managed. Ideal candidates will have at least three (4) years experience in bankruptcy law, preferably on the creditor side. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Provide expert legal counsel and representation to state agency clients seeking to collect judgments, tax liabilities, and other claims from entities that have entered bankruptcy. Assist state agency clients in understanding their rights and obligations in bankruptcy proceedings. Prepare and file necessary legal documents to preserve priority of state agency claims and liens. Represent state agency clients in bankruptcy hearings, negotiations, and court proceedings. Communicate effectively with state agency clients, debtors counsels, trustees, and other parties involved in bankruptcy cases. Stay abreast of changes and developments in bankruptcy law and procedure. In addition to experience with bankruptcy proceedings, candidates will have litigation experience, demonstrate excellent academic and professional credentials; possess superior oral and written communication skills; have outstanding legal research, analytical, and legal reasoning skills; and the ability to function with minimal guidance in a demanding legal environment. Candidates must also have an active WV law license or be eligible for admission.
