    The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 1 in the Social and Health Services Section of the Christine O. Gregoire Spokane Division. This position is located in Spokane, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees.

    Paralegal 1 Salary Range 51: $52,620 - $70,800
    The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

    The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:


    • Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
    • Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

    The Christine O. Gregoire Spokane Division provides legal services in Eastern Washington to many agencies and institutions of state government. The Social and Health Services Section is fast-paced, complex, and litigation intensive.

    Duties

    What does a Paralegal 1 do?

    The single largest component of this position is litigation regarding juvenile court dependency and termination cases. It is characterized by short lead times, intense pressure because of the subject matter, a large number of cases, high rates of settlements, and trials in the one to five day range. This position will draft termination of parental rights petitions following screening by the section chief, work with the social workers to obtain necessary information to draft legally sufficient petitions and also track petitions to filing to ensure the 45 day deadline is met. Additionally, attends the termination and dependency default docket, assures service of process was timely accomplished and meets with clients who appear and wish to apply for a public defender. The paralegal one will also assist other paralegals in the section with trial preparation.

    Combination of three years of experience through paralegal certification, two-year paralegal degree, and/or paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney.

    You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.
