Pathology Assistant under the supervision of a pathologist assists with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens. Prepares and selects tissue samples for analysis. Being a Pathology Assistant may record findings or sterilize equipment. Requires a bachelor's/master's degree from an accredited program. Additionally, Pathology Assistant may require certification as a pathologist assistant. Typically reports to a pathologist. To be a Pathology Assistant typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Responsibilities & Requirements

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs pre-analytic processing of specimens; collects specimens; accessions, labels and distributes specimens including blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture in all patient areas 
    • Instructs patients in the collection of urine samples and tolerance test in all patient areas.  
    • Other duties assigned 

    Job Qualifications:                                           

    • Must be at least 18 years old and/or high school graduation or the equivalent.   

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1 year experience preferred and/or graduation from phlebotomy program
