Pathology Assistant under the supervision of a pathologist assists with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens. Prepares and selects tissue samples for analysis. Being a Pathology Assistant may record findings or sterilize equipment. Requires a bachelor's/master's degree from an accredited program. Additionally, Pathology Assistant may require certification as a pathologist assistant. Typically reports to a pathologist. To be a Pathology Assistant typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. This position is defined as a professional assistant to the pathologist, whose duties include grossing of specimens, gross photography, accessioning of surgical specimens and instructing residents and medical students in handling gross surgical specimens. Performance of frozen sections and all other related duties. This pathologist assistant will work in a CLIA-certified surgical grossing laboratory and will direct and assist in the daily workflow of the staff and laboratory house staff. Proper grossing at UF Health, as a tertiary care center, requires proper specimen selection for the various tests being requested and for accurate diagnosis and frozen section performance. These tests may involve flow cytometry, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics and frozen sections. Sample selection is critical to ensure the proper amount, type and location.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Must meet qualifications for CLIA high-complexity testing personnel.

Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $48.08
Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $56.49
