The Pathology Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting the Histology department staff with all clerical and ancillary duties as needed.

This position works under the direction of the supervisor and follows standard Laboratory procedures and policies.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

1-3 years’ experience working in a Histology Laboratory as a Pathology/Histology Assistant.

Minimum Of a High School diploma (GED)/ associate degree ideal.

• Accurate data entry/typing skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

Assist the pathology department in processing specimens by verifying patient information on requisition and biopsy container and accessioning into the pathology computer system accurately and in a timely manner.

• Attaches labels to requisition and biopsy container accurately.
• Verifies proper specimen labeling as per department protocol.
• Verifies specimen are collected in appropriate container/fixative as per department protocol.
• Recognizes inappropriate collection practices and brings to the attention of the supervisor.
• Handles, prepares, and loads/unloads slide Stainer’s; conducts dehydrating and cover slips slides utilizing manual or automatic systems.
• Prepares, cleans, maintains, and shuts down Laboratory equipment, accessories, and instruments, including but not limited to tissue processors and slide Stainer’s.
• Responsible for filing blocks and slides.
• Responsible for writing cassettes needed for gross process.
• Any other duties as assigned.

This position is a part time position. Hours are 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday- Friday

Note: Candidate must be flexible with hours to accommodate heavy volume days as they occur.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
