We are seeking a PATIENT ACCOUNTS SPECIALIST in Iron River, Michigan to work at Aspirus Iron River Hospital or remotely. The Patient Accounts Specialist performs patient accounts activities as assigned. This includes initial billing, following up claims with no response, working and managing insurance denials, and reviewing and processing credits in a timely, accurate and consistent basis.

Experience/Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic accounting normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two to three years of related work experience in a medical patient accounts department.
• Understands and applies insurance billing, governmental regulations and managed care requirements, as applicable, to the billing process.
• Understands state and federal mandated coverages, health insurance terms, definitions and concepts, as well as auto and other liability terms, definitions and concepts.
• Understands state law governing privacy, utilizing compliance protocol and refers to policy and procedure manual when dealing with specific issues.
• Basic CPT and ICD9-CM coding desired.

HOURS: Full time; 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per week. Day Shift. No weekends or holidays.

Aspirus Iron River Hospital & Clinics is one of four hospitals in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the Aspirus family.

With 300 employees, Aspirus Iron River Hospital and Clinics serves people through a 25-bed hospital, physician clinics, dialysis center, rehab fitness center, ambulance service, and home care and hospice. The outpatient part of this practice is located in a stand-alone clinic. This allows the provider to work independently yet have the specialist support and financial security from the entire Aspirus health care system. The critical access hospital has an average daily census of 9-10 patients.

The hospital and clinics provide numerous services and has up to date technology, including 64 slice CT and a mobile MRI. The medical staff includes family practitioners, internal medicine, general surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, radiologist, emergency medicine physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants. Visiting medical staff includes ophthalmologist, oncologist, cardiologist, ENT, podiatrist, and nephrologist.
