Patient Accounts Director oversees all functions of the inpatient and/or outpatient accounting office. Directs a staff of credit, collection, insurance, and billing personnel. Being a Patient Accounts Director ensures billing deadlines are met. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Patient Accounts Director typically reports to top management. The Patient Accounts Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Patient Accounts Cashier

    • POSITION PURPOSE
      • Processes all receipts for the hospital; assists patients with questions or information about bills; and receives, records and stores patient valuables in the safe. Performs cashier functions related to receiving and posting payments as necessary from patients and other sources. Performs a limited variety of clerical duties involving the timely opening and distribution of mail. Provides clerical support for the Patient Financial Services staff as needed. Determines and applies appropriate adjustments, answers inquiries, and updates accounts, as necessary. Performs other related duties as requested.
    • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
      • High School or Equivalent (GED)
    • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
      • Must have at least six (6) months of money handling experience.
    • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
      • N/A
    • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
      • Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language.
      • Requires exceptional communication skills and the ability to deal with people in all levels of society in a calm, courteous manner.
      • Ability to handle fluctuating daily work assignments based upon changes in patient census volume.
      • Business Office experience in a health care environment in Billing, Cash Application, Customer Service, insurance follow-up or Collections is preferred.
      • Knowledge of telephone etiquette; typing; computer; calculator; copy machine; web-based applications; and the use of a fax machine.
      • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, push, and lift weights of up to 25 pounds for up to 5% of the workday.
    • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
      • Window Cashiers
        • Long periods of standing at the window while dealing with patients who may or may not be upset. Must be able to prioritize patient needs and respond quickly so clients are not kept waiting for assistance.
        • Ability to operate the following equipment: computer (PC), calculator, copy machine, remote deposit capture (RDC) machine, and fax machine.
        • Interrupted periods of sitting at a terminal and posting payments and remittances while also answering the telephone and helping customers.
        • Performs cash transactions with the ability to balance at the end of the day.
        • Must have knowledge of insurance in order to answer questions about bills.
        • Other duties and office functions as assigned.
      • Posting Cashiers
        • Long periods of sitting at a desk and posting payments from patients and third-party payor remittances
        • Ability to operate the following equipment: computer (PC), calculator, copy machine, RDC machine, and fax machine.
        • Interrupted periods of sitting at a terminal and posting payments and remittances while also answering the telephone.
        • Scans Explanation of Benefits and daily posting batches.
        • Must have knowledge of insurance contracts and be able to calculate and post discounts.
        • Other duties and office functions as assigned.
