Patient Accounts Supervisor supervises credit, collection, insurance, and billing clerks in an inpatient and/or outpatient accounting office. Coordinates activities and schedules work assignments to meet billing deadlines. Being a Patient Accounts Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Patient Accounts Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Responsibilities: This position is responsible for managing, planning and coordinating internal and external customers services involving patient access. These positions include registration, ER registration, scheduling and insurance verification. Position is responsible for handling financial counseling. Must ensure all patients with no insurance complete the required application for DSH/KCHIP assistance (this may require going to the patient rooms). If denied assistance, work with that patient to collect payment or set up payment plan. Assist all patient registration and business personnel in collecting point of service co-insurance and deductible before patient leaves the premises. Continually work self-pay accounts receivable to ensure all patients are contacted and payment received.
The supervisor of Patient Access major responsibility is to provide accurate patient information to the business office, clinical areas, marketing and planning, insurance companies, and physician offices. He/she must have exceptional customer service skills as well as the ability to train and require staff to provide the same to appropriately deal with patients.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum five years experience in healthcare, Patient Billing or Registration. Must be familiar with Medicare and Medicaid, and reliable with handling money. Personal computer skills are required, including word processing and spreadsheets. Familiarity with HMS and SSI applications is highly desirable.
