Assistant Director for Employer Relations

  • UVA Engineering is seeking an Assistant Director for Employer Relations to facilitate career connections for all undergraduate and graduate Engineering students. Reporting to the Director for the Center for Engineering Career Development, the Assistant Director will be responsible for developing a diverse network of employers to help students pursue career pathways in a variety of fields related to Engineering.

    • Cultivate and maintain a portfolio of 100 employer connections for UVA Engineering students, including helping employers to develop and implement recruiting strategies.
    • Proactively develop new career opportunities for UVA Engineering students by expanding UVA’s network of engaged employers.
    • Collaborate with UVA Engineering’s Director of Industry Engagement to and assist with 40Core partners’ recruitment efforts.
    • Serve as point of contact for central UVA Employer Relations team to link employers to School of Engineering; assist with pan-university employer engagement.
    • Represent School of Engineering at monthly Employer Relations team meetings and weekly career services affiliate calls.
    • Coordinate On-Grounds Recruiting efforts with engineering-specific employers (greeting employers during tabling events, hosting employer visits, and introducing employers to appropriate faculty, staff, and student groups).
    • Lead School of Engineering’s signature Engineering Career Fair and Conference, an annual multi-day event with 100 employers and 2000 students.
    • Coordinate student programming, both on and off campus, that engages external constituents and gives students insight into a variety of career fields. Examples of programs include industry networking receptions, majors nights, student-alumni receptions, externships, and shadowing programs.
    • Collaborate closely with UVA Engineering Advancement team to engage alumni in student career development.
    • Serve as point of contact for state-level workforce development efforts (e.g., Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, Virginia Tech Talent Pipeline, etc.)
    • Support Engineering student organizations and academic departments in connecting to and engaging with employers.
    • Assist Director with special projects, as needed.


    This position will rely heavily on the following National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Professional Competencies for College and University Career Services Practitioners:

    • Program and Event Administration
