Patient Representative acts as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare organization to support patient-centric care delivery. Communicates patients' questions, concerns, and issues to appropriate staff members, follows up, and facilitates solutions as needed. Being a Patient Representative explains policies, procedures, rights, and applicable regulations to patients and provides informational resources about available services. Working with multi-disciplinary teams may make recommendations for improvements to the patient experience. Additionally, Patient Representative may participate in discharge processes or administer patient satisfaction surveys. Follows all applicable regulations regarding patient information privacy policies. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Patient Representative works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Description

    Primary Scheduled Hours:  80 hours per pay period - Day shift

     

    Job Summary:

    Responsible for medical billing functions and submission of claims to third-party payers for payment. Reviews claims to verify accuracy and completeness of charges. Researches denied or incomplete bills. Submits secondary claims, makes claim adjustments, and corrects claims as needed. Ability to submit letters of appeal with proper documentation to insurance carriers. Works closely with district departments; providing updates regarding codes, benefits limits or changes for patients’ health insurance, including state and federal programs. Interacts with patients; understanding medical benefits, processing patient payments, and resolves minor billing complaints.

    Education Background and Experience

    Minimum Education:

    High school graduate or equivalent.

    Required Experience:

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    One (1) or more years' experience in medical billing

    EPIC experience

    • Maintain regulatory requirements.
    • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.

    • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Interacts daily with patients/families regarding billing problems and insurance information.
    • Polished phone demeanor, tone, and etiquette are required.
    • Investigate and follow up on questions/issues to resolve concerns in an accurate and timely manner, communicating information to the appropriate staff as needed.
    • Demonstrates the ability to assist patients and insurance companies with respect.
    • Compiles hospital claims, completes appropriate forms, submits claims to proper agencies/insurance companies; electronically and/or paper as needed.
    • Contacts patients/insurance companies to collect unpaid insurance claims.
    • Documents all correspondence and conversations with insurance companies, governmental agencies, third party payers and patients on patient 's account.
    • Stays informed about changes in Medicare and Medicaid.
    • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
    • Interacts with patients/families in a professional manner. Treats patients/families with respect; ensures confidentiality of patient records.
    • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
    • Maintains a professional working relationship with insurance companies.

    Compensation/How We Care For You:

    Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($17.44- $20.54./hour)dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
