Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     We are hiring a Safety Manager for Fortress Fencing, a wholly owned subsidiary of DSI. Fortress Fencing LLC was founded in October of 2001. Over the past 21 years, Fortress Fencing has built a national reputation for being the top installer of security fence in the United States. The company is based in Carrboro, North Carolina and has built solar farm fencing, substation fencing, commercial and industrial fencing across the nation. In 2023, Fortress will surpass 4,000,000 linear feet of security fence built across America.

    Purpose

    The Health and Safety Manager provides safety leadership, ensures operational compliance with safety standards, implements safety directives, assists management to improve safety performance, and helps align safety policies and procedures with regulations. This position supports departments and subcontractors.

    Essential Functions

    • Develop and support creation of a strategy of safety and compliance strategic goals.
    • Ensure site management has the appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, managers, and supervisors, in order to drive the safety culture, compliance, and results.
    • Supervise, lead, and mentor company-wide safety and compliance support staff.
    • Develop effective safety and compliance programs and policies designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries and incidents.
    • Communicate safety and compliance strategy and objectives to leadership.
    • Support site management in the implementation of safety and compliance programs or policies.
    • Design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern, and drive accountability.
    • Execute an effective Occupational, Health & Safety Management System.
    • Liaise with external vendors to manage hazardous waste hotline, SDS system, waste collection, and disposal program.
    • Lead or direct incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans.
    • Facilitate supervisor and management training on root cause analysis.
    • Assist site management in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
    • Monitor, interpret and communicate regulatory changes to management.
    • Display strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills and analytical skills
    • Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader.
    • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
    • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
    • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

    Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Bi-lingual Spanish/English
    • OSHA 510
    • Five (5) years related supervisory experience in a safety role.
    • Working knowledge of the construction/electrical/gas industry/and HDD industry.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to think strategically and provide strong leadership.
    • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
    • Valid US Driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associate's degree in related field of study.
    • OSHA 500
    • OSHA 10 and 30 Certifications.
    • Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    This job often operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
