Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Salary Range:Annual Rate Minimum $111,200.00 Midpoint $163,100.00 Maximum $215,000.00
Required Qualifications:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health SystemAbility to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workloadMust demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the jobExceptional level of professionalism, discretion and the ability to work on highly sensitive and confidential projectsKnowledge of current trends and best practices in healthcare quality improvement and patient safetySuccessful track record of effective, team-oriented working relationships with physicians, nurses and other health professionalsMinimum 5 years of supervisory/management experienceExcellent written and verbal English communication skills7 years of experience in healthcare with demonstrated ability in design, implementation and sustainment of performance improvement activities in a health care setting including skillful application of continuous quality improvement and patient safety sciences5 years of progressive leadership experience in quality improvement, performance improvement, operational excellence, nursing or patient safety in an academic medical center or large, integrated, tertiary health care setting providing expert level understanding of the art and the science of quality improvement and patient safetyDemonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated ability to complete projects successfully on time and within budgetMinimum 7 years’ experience working as a RN, other licensed clinical practitioner or similar experience in a related fieldMust possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned dutiesBachelor’s Degree in healthcare administration, public health, or other relevant field
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Lean-Sigma as an improvement methodologyMaster’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Business, Administration or related fieldExperience managing participation in voluntary registriesCurrent Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, CPHQ and/or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)
