Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Responsibilities*:

    • Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
    • Advises management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
    • Maintains safety files and records.
    • Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
    • Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management and works with Workers Compensation cases.
    • Coordinate and conduct training.
    • Assists in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
    • Assist and maintain environmental reports including Tier 2 Reporting, Storm Water Permits, SPCC etc.
    • Maintain Emergency Response plans.
    • Work closely with plant management in optimizing opportunities to reduce risks using Ergonomic evaluation, Job Safety Analysis, and make recommendations for correction.
    • Responsible for overseeing compliance with regular inspections to include, but not limited to; fire equipment, emergency response vehicle components, AED units, hoists, ladders, eye wash stations and stored respirators. Will also work with maintenance on plant inspections.

    Job Requirements*:

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
    • 5 years of safety work experience required.
    • Experience in a food manufacturing environment required.
    • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
    • Experience in a company with 800 employees is preferred.
    • Ability to speak Spanish or another language other than English is preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations (General industry) a must.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
    • 1st Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
    • Must have an acceptable current driver’s license.
