Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Your Role With Us:

    Your positive attitude and a commitment to meeting the needs of the patient population will assist in creating a safe environment for our patients by maintaining constant observation and effectively relaying information to the nursing care team.

    • Observe Patients; position themselves in their assigned patient’s room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient; ensure the patient is never alone or out of sight.
    • Uses appropriate communication skills related to a basic behaviors when observing for patients as follows: observant of the patient’s activity and behavior and communicates on regular basis to the nurse; receives direction from the nurse re: what to report, to whom and how.
    • Communicates with a friendly, respectful manner, non-judgmental approach, addressing each patient as appropriate and allowing time for processing information as needed; obtains instruction from the nurse regarding limitations & course of action for redirection of patient if needed.
    • Keep patient environment safe, clean and in orderly manner; responds as directed by the nurse to changing patient/unit need; maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.
    • Demonstrates flexibility of work schedule by flexing days, hours and assignment to meet patient needs; offers support and feedback to peers and staff; seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.

    Background/Expertise:

    • Have a high school diploma or GED Equivalent preferred.
    • Recent experience in health care setting preferred.
    • Have strong customer service, organizational, technical and communication skills.
    • Staff Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) training required within six months of hire.
