Patient Safety Specialist assists in the development and implementation of patient safety programs. Gathers data detailing patient-related errors and conducts analysis for management detailing the cause of the error. Being a Patient Safety Specialist recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Gives presentations and training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Additionally, Patient Safety Specialist tests patient-safety knowledge of employees and recommends changes to training programs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Specialist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Safety Specialist General Purpose
    • The Safety Specialist will lead the safety strategy an associate work to ensure the plant safety program is continually improving. 
    • Safety Specialist will drive the Risk Reduction Program, the Critical Safety Standards and the Behavioral safety program at the site
    • Develop capital justification and assist in the implementation of capital approvals
    • Carries out require lab testing to ensure product quality meet defined standards
    Safety Specialist Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
    • Drives Safety Concern “SCF” process.
    • Administers safety training for all new hires.
    • Develops, trains and administer the critical safety standards for the plant
    • Champions the behavioral safety program for the site
    • Assists management with accident/incident investigations.
    • Perform process checks throughout the system, including receipt of raw material, production, and packaging. 
    • Calibrate or oversee the calibration of all testing equipment.
    • Schedule and execute sample submittals to external laboratory vendor for batch type testing.
    • Assist in training employees on safety and quality control training programs and practices.
    • Maintain accurate and organized records 
    • Assist with company safety programs to include safety committee management
    • Other tasks as assigned.
    Safety Specialist Key Competencies
    • Will be lifting up to 40lbs
    • Mechanically inclined.
    • Industrial safety experience and knowledge
    • Work standing or walking for most working shifts
    • Basic math and literacy
    • Basic computer operation skills
    • Ability to understand and operate basic product testing equipment
    • High level of organizational skills, including written and verbal communication, creative problem solving, and commitment to company goals
    • Ability to speak in groups and conduct group training
