Patient Safety Specialist assists in the development and implementation of patient safety programs. Gathers data detailing patient-related errors and conducts analysis for management detailing the cause of the error. Being a Patient Safety Specialist recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Gives presentations and training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Additionally, Patient Safety Specialist tests patient-safety knowledge of employees and recommends changes to training programs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Specialist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Responsibilities
The Patient Safety Attendant is responsible for providing continuous observation of assigned patients,virtually and in-person as needed.
This includes verbally redirecting patient form engaging in any at-risk behaviors and notifying nursing staff when patients need assistance.
1. Maintains visual observation at all times. Verbally redirects patients over audio and / or visual devices that are in the patient rooms.
2. Makes rounds to patient rooms that are set up with virtual observation.
3. Completes observation records and reports as required.
4. Reports any unusual behavior to the nurse i.e. confusion or disorientation.
5. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and / or GED equivalent programs.
2. American Heart Association BLS certificate (required within 60 days of hire).
2. Capable of continuous monitoring of patients and always remaining alert while on duty.
3. Ability to stay mobile according to the patient's movements including the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with patients using audio / visual devices.
5. Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
Preferred :
1. Prior experience working in a hospital setting.
2. Prior experience in a direct patient care role.
