Patient Safety Specialist assists in the development and implementation of patient safety programs. Gathers data detailing patient-related errors and conducts analysis for management detailing the cause of the error. Being a Patient Safety Specialist recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Gives presentations and training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Additionally, Patient Safety Specialist tests patient-safety knowledge of employees and recommends changes to training programs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Specialist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.   • Position Summary

    Under direct supervision of the Safety Manager, ensures the safety and wellness of DemKota Ranch Beef employees, working areas, and safe operation of machines and conveyors.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Initial point of contact for minor safety concerns.
    • Ensure the safety of all employees and crew members by monitoring employees for safety (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment, such as gloves, eye wear, hand gloves, hard hats, mesh aprons, safety harness, etc.
    • Ensure that all safety guidelines are always followed.
    • Minimum of 70% of the scheduled workday spent on the production floor.
    • Perform safety observations and analysis of hazards of work performed and make recommendations to correct any safety concerns.
    • Assist the various departments by installing safety equipment or preventative barriers.
    • Proactively drive safety behavior and follow safety policies and procedure.
    • Contribute to the ordering and receiving of safety supplies.
    • Assist in medical as necessary or required.
    • Document track and correct “Near Miss” conditions.
    • Conduct required Environmental Health Safety (EHS) audits.
    • Ability to flex work schedule on a as needed basis.
    • Conduct all safety classes and assist with new hire safety orientation.
    • Write lockout, confined space and fall protection procedures.
    • Conduct yearly review of lockout procedures.
    • Lead the safety committee meetings.
    • Monthly Fire Extinguisher Checks.
    • Assist supervisors in incident investigations.

    Job Requirements:

    • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be proficient in MS word, power point and excel.
    • Previous experience in safety /training role preferable.
    • EMT, AED, CPR and First Aid certified preferable.
    • Mechanical ability needed.
    • Working in the plant around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
    • Ability to maintain composure in a trauma type situation.
    • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
    • Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties.
    • Ability to speak and hear clearly and demonstrative effective communication.
    • Bilingual preferable.
    • Ability to effectively observe employee activities which aid in investigations.
    • Ability to display effective manual dexterity, to perform routine office duties.
    • Ability to perform personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
    • Ability to perform personal mobility to maneuver within a plant environment to include the ability to gain access to elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells.

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to sit, stand, talk, walk, read, or bend 8-12 hrs. a day.
    • Plant & office environment.

    Work Environment:

    • Office – 20-pound lifting occasionally.
    • Patient extraction may require a lift of over seventy-five pounds
    • Obey all safety rules & exercise caution in all work activities.
    • Work in hot conditions.
    • Work in frigid conditions.
