JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Specialist is responsible for evaluating, building, and providing training for Gelest staff on EH&S related topics. Additionally, the Safety Specialist will aid the EH&S staff in various tasks including writing SOPs and incident/near miss tracking and investigation.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL TASKS
· Evaluate, build, and edit EH&S training
· Train and mentor members of Gelest in EH&S topics through web-based training and in person
· Maintain training documents
· Maintain the Respiratory Protection Program to include performing respirator fit testing
· Lead the Safety Committee and maintain state certification
· Develop, review, and update EH&S SOPs
· Perform inspections and maintain or initiate repairs to SCBA units, chemical fume hoods, eye wash/safety showers, etc.
· Assist departments with completing JSAs
· Identify unsafe behaviors and conditions and effectively eliminate risks
· Work closely with employees in other departments to maintain a positive safety culture
· Investigate incidents, develop root causes, and work with team members to develop solutions
· Participate in the internal audit program for Gelest’s safety management system
· Certify employees on forklifts
· Support corporate EH&S goals

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Occasional travel to the Morrisville, PA site and the need to occasionally adjust schedule to provide training to night shift employees.
· Must be able to wear PPE including a respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, chemical protective clothing, safety boots, gloves and pass a fit test.
· Must be able to hear/see and respond to all emergency communications and alarms.
· The ability to predictably and regularly attend work and to be punctual.
