Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator operates a mechanical machine to lay gravel, stone, and cold-mix asphalt on road surfaces. May require a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. Tamper Operator - Mark IV

    Must have experience operating a Mark IV Tamper.

     

    The Mark IV Tamper Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the equipment.

     

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Operate Mark IV tamper
    • Perform preventative maintenance and safety checks on equipment
    • Maintain equipment at proper operating leaves and appearance
    • Assist laborers as needed
    • Clear lines of communication with supervisor and other equipment operators
    • Always work safely and wear required PPE
    • Follow DOT regulations
    • Be aware of surroundings and hazards that may be present
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or the management team


    Requirements:

    • Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory and safety environment
    • Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery, specifically a Mark IV Tamper
    • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
    • Railroad knowledge and experience
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must meet all medical fitness for DOT Medical Card
    • Must be a team player
    • Welding skills a plus
    • Mechanic skills a plus
    • Valid Class A CDL a plus


    Working Conditions:

    • Outdoors, year-round in the Eastern United States
      • You will work in extreme hot and cold weather, rain, snow, etc.
    • Work environment consists of loud, moving equipment
    • 8 to 12 hour work days on the road 8 straight days
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and more at times

     

    Job Type: Full-time

     

    Salary: $25-$28/hr DOE

    • 8 hour to 12 hour shift
    • Weekday and weekend work
    • 8-day rotations

    Education:

    • High school or equivalent (Required)

     

    Experience:

    • 2 years railroad and 1 year Mark IV Tamper experience required.

     

    License/Certification:

    • Class A Driver's License a plus

     

    Work Location: On the road, travel to and from the jobsite in company vehicles with the crew.
